This rooster shaped water dispenser is commonly called ‘Gurguret’ or ‘Gurgulet’ in Konkani.
During the olden days people would store water in this clay pot. It served as an earthy and natural water cooler. Water stored in clay pots is naturally cooled due to the porosity, which is healthier than artificially cooled water. This lowers the risk of sore throats and head colds.
This artifect is now made by a few local artisans and potters and sold in the local markets in Goa. If you have one in your house, don’t forget to make use of it. Keep the #goaheritage alive.
